Catholic Relief Services programming in Latin America and the Caribbean focuses on meeting critical and immediate basic needs (i.e. health services, emergency aid, etc.) while at the same time addressing the long-term, structural factors that make poverty a chronic problem in the region. For instance, all CRS projects are designed to strengthen the ability of local communities and their organizations to meet their own needs and to work more effectively with their local governments; thus, reducing their reliance on international assistance.
